Hardness Testers Categories
Hardness test is one of the easy test methods in mechanical property test. when hardness tests is instead of mechanical property tests, an accurate conversion between hardness and strength is needed.
1. Leeb Hardness Tester Is designed according to the latest Principles of The Leeb Hardness Test using the most advanced microprocessor technology.
2. Brinell hardness (HB) a certain size (diameter is usually 10mm) of hardened steel ball is pressed into the material surface with a certain load (generally 3000kg) and kept for a period of time. After unloading, the ratio of the load to the indentation area is brinell hardness value (HB), and the unit is kilogram force /mm2 (N/mm2).
3. Rockwell hardness (HR) when the HB>450 or the sample is too small, the brinell hardness test cannot be used but rockwell hardness measurement. It USES a diamond cone with a top Angle of 120° or a steel ball with a diameter of 1.59 and 3.18mm to press into the surface of the measured material under a certain load, and the hardness of the material is calculated from the depth of the indentation. There are three scale according to the hardness of the test material
4. HRA: It is the hardness obtained by using 60kg load and drill cone presser. It is used for extremely hard materials (such as hard alloy).
5. HRB: The hardness is obtained by using 100kg load and 1.58mm diameter hardened steel ball. It is used for materials with low hardness (such as annealed steel, cast iron, etc.).
6. HRC: It is the hardness obtained by 150kg load and drilling-cone presser. It is used for very hard materials (such as hardened steel.
7. Vickers hardness (HV) Is calculated by pressing into the material surface with a load of less than 120kg and a diamond square cone impinger with a top Angle of 136°. Then, the load value is divided by the surface area of the indentation pits.
8. Webster’s Hardness Tester (HW)
It is suitable for measuring the hardness of aluminum alloy products.
